Let Somizi Mhlongo's Star Shine Brighter.
With Somizi Mhlongo the saying 'simply the best' doesn't resonate too far but hits the target. He's one of a kind and there's never been two. I always have to be reminded by my wife that I'm gawking everytime Somizi appears on the TV screen and I always give the same reply that he won't mind because he doesn't see me. It's not like I'm watching from the window behind the curtain. You can always feel the eyes on you behind the curtain as you walk in the streets. If you don't feel eyes on you as you walk the streets then you definitely don't make an impact on anyone. You are as good as dead.
Somizi's star shine so bright it's like his parents prayed, fasted, consulted a sangoma (traditional healer) and burned impepho (incense) prior to making love and conceiving him. It's as if the sangoma adviced his parents to only make love on Sundays and no other particular day to conceive the child. Sunday is a special day in many ways, not just for Christians but for almost all humans including heathens. By the way, heathens aren't bad people, they just don't believe in the existence of a God, that's all.
Heathens are more rational than believers. Heathens are more inclined to possess a heightened emotional and intelligent balance than believers. While believers have an external locus of control and will blame their failure on the wrath of a deity and easily give up, heathens have an internal locus of control and tend to start all over again if their lives hit rock bottom. Heathens don't blame anyone or anything for their failure but themselves thus their resilience.
I know that Somizi likes to think of himself as a Christian but betrays that same belief by revealing his intelligence in a subtle manner even he doesn't recognizes. To say that Somizi is an intelligent person is an overstatement. No, Somizi isn't an intelligent person but an enlightened person. There's a difference between enlightenment and intelligence and in my book titled Nelson Mandela: The Rise of Madibaism I differentiate between intelligence, wisdom and enlightenment and refer to enlightenment as the highest level of reasoning and thinking one can achieve.
Somizi's presence eclipses that of his fellow judges on Idols SA. You can see that the other judges look up to Somizi for leadership and guidance on the show and neither Randall or Unathi dare say anything to contradict him as if he will severely punish them for holding a different view. By the way, Somizi is a meek person and will never hurt anyone but how the other judges tiptoe around him brings out his glory. Somizi doesn't ask for glory but glory follows him like a shadow.
Somizi Mhlongo doesn't have a university degree and neither is his walls decorated with pictures of himself draped in graduation regalia amid graduates and intellectuals. I've never been to Somizi's house but I can only imagine that his walls are decorated with pictures of him and great leaders and minds this world can offer. When Somizi's life was disrupted and he found himself in the abyss, he managed to pick himself up and move on. Not so many people will go through the same situation that Somizi has been in and go on to amass wealth and glory, thereafter. Many would have given up and drowned their sorrows in alcohol.
Somizi isn't educated and is in no possession of a university degree and yet he manages to overcome obstacles put in his way. Many people go to college or university to study for a particular trade and when they graduate, the reality of the universe dawns upon them that the world is a competitive space. The degree or diploma becomes useless like the paper printed on it. Many students think that being in possession of a degree or diploma automatically qualifies them for a job. Having a degree or diploma doesn't qualify anyone for a job but merely makes them better suited for the job as a candidate.
Many South African graduates suffer from entitlement syndrome. They expect to find jobs after graduating as if they'll be working at their parents companies. Some graduates march against the government for lack of jobs and unemployment as if the government is responsible for providing jobs. The South African public service is over bloated with some government employees drawing a salary for doing nothing. The public service sector cannot absorb anymore personnel and can't afford to replace deceased and retired personnel.
The Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) is upon us and the Artificial Intelligence (IA) is the future and has replaced formerly essential qualifications and thus making studying for such qualifications redundant and useless. For example, the need for medical practitioners such as GP's is being outsourced by google. One needs to consult google to determine their ailment and go to Dischem and buy related medication except in cases where a prescription is needed for a schedule 3-6 medication. There are many ways qualifications are becoming obsolete and it's only a matter of time before we realize that.
Unlike Somizi Mhlongo, a lot of people rely on already discovered social skills to be economically viable and to earn a living. Such economic social skills are becoming saturated leading to fierce competition and survival of the fittest. By being an enlightened person, Somizi has realized that he had innate skills to survive economically and socially. He can easily make friends and influence others. He doesn't have to wait for clients to come to his office. Somizi won't starve if no single client or patient paid him a visit for the whole month.
There's a Somizi in all of us, let him or her out and start living your dream.
President Cyril Ramaphosa needs to bestow Somizi Mhlongo with an award of the greatest achiever in our lifetime and not posthumously.
